Building STEPS helps Baltimore City kids go to college and earn a degree.
Building STEPS is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit built on one simple principle; a college education changes a person’s life. The multi-year program, supplementing students’ classroom learning, exposes bright, underserved high school students to science and technology-based careers, and helps them excel in these fields where minorities are overwhelmingly underrepresented.
Eighty-four percent of Building STEPS graduates earn a college degree, almost all of whom are the first to do so in their family.
Building STEPS (Science Technology And Education Partnerships Inc.) was founded in 1995 by Matthew Weinberg, CEO of The Weinberg Group. Initially in Washington D.C., Building STEPS was relocated to Baltimore in September 1999. Baltimore, as a major metropolitan city, offers a broad breadth of science and technology-based corporate and institutional partners.
