Building STEPS Names Erika Cabrera Program Associate, College Access

BALTIMORE, MD-Building STEPS is pleased to announce that Erika Cabrera has been named Program Associate, College Access. In her role, Ms. Cabrera will equip our students for college success, guiding them through the comprehensive college access process. She will facilitate and encourage exploration of college options, complete and submit competitive college and financial aid applications and prepare them for higher education opportunities and challenges.

Ms. Cabrera is a first-generation American, attending public schools in New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Prior experience includes college access initiatives with Bloomberg Philanthropies and America Achieves, working with students from minority families. She previously worked at Phillips Academy, Mathematics and Science for Minority Students, a program of which she’s an alum. Most recently, she taught Social Studies at The Gilman School in Baltimore. Ms. Cabrera holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth University and a graduate degree in Education from University of Pennsylvania.

As a former educator and first-generation college student, Erika is personally motivated to impact large scale change in education equity. She is committed to aiding underrepresented students in actualizing their full potential to maximize their opportunities after college completion.
