Position:

Be a part of a collaborative team that is transforming the trajectory of Baltimore City youth. The Program Associate College Access is responsible for implementing programming integral to college access, persistence and completion, engages directly with our students, partners and volunteers, and reports to and works closely with the Chief Program Officer.

The Program Associate College Access is a full-time professional dedicated to guiding our high school seniors through the college match, application and acceptance processes, including the application processes for financial aid and scholarship. This position is responsible for planning and facilitating the College Workshops and in-school office hours. Ultimately, this professional is responsible for students identifying appropriate college matches, completing and submitting compelling college and financial aid applications and for tracking college acceptances, financial aid awards, and addressing complications that may occur during the process.

Building STEPS (Science Technology And Education Partnerships Inc.) is a nonprofit that equips our city’s brightest students with the tools to propel them to college and career success. Through multi-year, comprehensive programming, nearly 80% of Building STEPS graduates earn a college degree, nearly all the first in their family to do so.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate monthly College Workshops, including coordinating guest speakers/presenters and communicating with school leadership on attendance and scheduling
  • Match students with Writing Advisors and manage essay process
  • Supervise the college application process for all students, adhering to deadlines and submission requirements
  • Plan and facilitate family FAFSA program, supporting FAFSA completion and submission
  • Ensure students maximize public and private college funding opportunities
  • Oversee financial aid/scholarship processes, adhering to deadlines and anticipating challenges
  • Plan and facilitate in-school office hours
  • Cultivate relationships with area college admissions offices

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with in college access or admissions preferred
  • Understanding of college and financial aid application processes
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver with strong communication and presentation skills
  • Self-starter comfortable working on multiple projects and deadlines
  • Detailed orientated, capable of organizing and tracking multiple data points
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience. Position includes health care allowance, work from home 2 days/week, paid time off, Federal holidays and winter break. Building STEPS office is located on the campus of Towson University.

This position is responsible for managing all summer interns, and co-facilitates the Summer Workshops and College Workshops. The Program Associate is responsible for implementing programming integral to college persistence and completion; engages directly with our college students, Alumni council, partners and volunteers, and reports to and works closely with the Chief Program Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Match all students with summer internship positions, collaborating with the Volunteer Coordinator for internship success. Serve as point of contact for all students throughout the placement process and internship
  • Coordinate and manage all YouthWorks logistics
  • Facilitate Summer Workshops, including guest presenters
  • Facilitate College Bridge programming, easing the transition from high school to college and familiarizing first year college students with academic and campus resources
  • Provide proactive direct support to ensure college persistence and completion, including troubleshooting, informal counseling, campus visits and regular, multi-platform communications
  • Connect college students with campus resources and create campus-based peer groups
  • Integrate Backpack2Briefcase curriculum into students’ college plan
  • Through communications and programs, inform families about college access, persistence and completion supports and strategies
  • Advance the goals and objectives of Alumni Council

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with undergraduate college students preferred

  • Has own transportation to travel to area college campuses
